Elvis Presley. Faith Hill. B.B. King. What’s up with this trio of iconic singers? They were all born in Mississippi and they’ve all recorded Christmas holiday music that’s uplifting and inspiring! But you don’t have to be from the great state of Mississippi to celebrate Yuletide in style. But we do recommend that you do yourself a favor and get into a southern frame of mind this holiday season. Here’s some quick steps… 1. Buy a ton of butter. 2. Dig out the deep fryer to cook that turkey or goose. 3. Read the rest of this blog for some really great Mississippi ways to spruce up your holidays!
Whip up a Mud Pie.
The song dates back to the 1920s, but you didn’t have to live back then to hum along to the catchy old lyrics: “It’s a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi Mud.” This holiday, forget about your feet and focus on your stomach by producing a genuine Mississippi Mud Pie guaranteed to get your pie pan into the dishwasher fast because not a crumb will be left.
This recipe is as easy and laid-back as a summer day in Vicksburg:
Combine 2 cups graham cracker crumbs with ¼ cup sugar and ½ cup butter and firmly press the crust mixture into a 9-inch pie pan. Blend together an 8 ounce package of cream cheese with 3/4 cup sugar plus 12-ounces of thawed, non-dairy whipped topping. Spread the cream cheese layer over the graham cracker crust. Whisk together 1 box each of instant chocolate and instant butterscotch pudding mix with 3 cups of milk. Spread over the cream cheese layer. Top with whipped topping, chocolate shavings and chill until served. Find other Mississippi Mud Pie recipes here.
Enjoy a meal that someone else cooks.
At the Lady Luck Casino®, there’s more than just merriment and joy during the holiday season as slot machines sing, winners hoot and holler, table games turn into competitive fun and even the employees get into the holiday spirit. It’s hard to feel sad—even if you part with a few bucks. When it’s time to put on the feed bag Mississippi style, head to the Farmer’s Pick Buffet® and enjoy somebody else’s hard work.
Everything’s fresh—seriously fresh. Top chef's work with local farmers and food purveyors so everything on this bountiful buffet is just-picked, all the way down to the fried okra. Folks behind the scenes call this "A Fresh Way to Buffet™," but you’ll call it revolutionary when you drop by for lunch or brunch week days or hit the legendary Crab Legs Buffet on weekends. Check the buffet’s website for times and prices before you head there, and if you’re hosting out-of-towners for Christmas, bring them over for brunch once they’ve helped you polish off your Christmas dinner leftovers at home!
